Sengstack's Video Shooting Tips

Things I already knew:
  • I already knew that you can create a sequence of wide, medium, and tight shots by starting with a wide shot and then slowly zooming in on something.
  • I already knew about shooting using the rule of thirds, where you split the view up in thirds in your mind. If your shooting a person, their eyes should be on the top third of the line.
Things I don't know:
  • I didn't know about aerial shots where you shoot shots from something in the air like a helicopter. A few rules about this are that you should always think about safety first, and you should try to keep the camera slightly inside the doorframe so there is less wind.
  • I didn't know much about trucking shots which are shots that move with action.

Shayna

1. What is the role of the reporter's seques in this story?

The segues help shift from interviews with Shayna or her husband to the tape of her parachuting to pictures of after the accident. They also help give more information.

2. Why do you think she did not include a stand-up in the story?

I don't think she included a stand-up because it's not really that type of story, it would've seemed odd for a reporter to pop up in the middle of the video or in any part of the video and talk about Shayna's accident. It just didn't seem like it needed a stand-up.

3. What is the biggest surprise in the story?

The biggest suprise of the story was when we found out that she and her baby survived the fall.

4. How does the story end with hope?
It ends with hope because it shows that her and her baby survived, and it shows her pushing her baby on a swing.

The Death of Steve Jobs

The death of Steve Jobs seems to be a bad death for everyone in the United States. Last night when I went on Facebook, I was instantly overwhelmed by the amount of statuses about his death. His death was all over the news, twitter, and facebook. I think that it is sad that he passed away at only 54 years old. I didn't really expect him to die, I was completely caught off guard. He was truly a computer genius and he will be remembered.
