Eagan man’s sentencing shows slavery persists in Twin Cities
This article is about a man by the name of Joo Ok Kim that has been hiding illegal immigrants in his basement in Eagan. Five men from Guatemala were living in his basement in horrible living conditions and being forced to do things like work for Kim's siding business. The men were paid at first, but eventually received no pay and were to afraid to report Kim because he threatened them and told them he'd turn them into the authorities. Now things have flipped because theres talk that Kim may be deported to South Korea and the five men might get to stay in the United States. Kim currently has a prison term and also has to pay more than 22,000 dollars in restitution.
