Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was one of the first African American children to attend an all white children school. This happened in the 1960's when Ruby was 6 years old. She attended an all white school and was the only African American to go there at the time. There was a lot of controversy over this; many white parents refused to bring their children to a school that had an African American in it and many teachers refused to teach for the same reason. Many people protested Ruby's going to William Frantz elementary school. Barbara Henry was a teacher they had to bring in from Boston because all of the other teachers refused to teach her. Ruby Bridges is still living today and is working to prevent racism in schools today!
